Night Skies from the Upper Buffalo Wilderness

April 22, 2018 by RedStarImaging No Comments

I wandered around Whitaker Point Thursday night into Friday morning while collecting some imagery and time lapse. I met a nice fella name John from Fayetteville when I got there. He was there for the stars too, and it was his first time ever. He got a night sky education, he was stoked. But it got pretty darn cold, dropped to 35 degrees so he left around midnight. That’s when I had the place all to myself. I was prepared, I had layers on layers with duck down shells, ready for what mother nature was going to throw at me (although I still froze my ass off). It was too cold to sleep in the hammock, so I did calisthenics on and off to keep the blood pumping. When you are out in the wilderness by yourself, it gives you lots of time to think, and contemplate life’s next moves. I have a few ideas, nothing set in stone, but the potential is there, and that is exciting.

Milky Way from King’s Bluff

July 2, 2017 by RedStarImaging No Comments

Last Thursday we jumped at the opportunity to take an adventure back to Milky Way Land, even if it was only for a couple hours! As soon as the clouds burned off during sunset, all I could do was think about shooting the Milky Way. As soon as I mentioned Milky Way, I think Karen knew we were in for an adventure! We went back to one of our spots, and started hiking in. The moon was still up and helped light the way. Once we got to our location, we started rolling time lapse on a couple cameras, then just chilled out gazing into the night sky. We packed up the gear around 2:30am, as some fog and clouds started moving in. We made the hike back to the truck in what seemed like record time. It was a good thing we decided to head out, on our drive home, we received Severe Thunderstorm Watch alerts.
Here is the Milky Way in all of it’s glory!

Bentonville Square in 4K

June 28, 2017 by RedStarImaging No Comments

With the weather being so nice lately, we decided to head up to the square in Bentonville, Arkansas for an afternoon of relaxing and people watching. We collected some random time lapse sequences throughout the evening. This is a compilation Eric put together of some of the different scenes.
Enjoy! 🙂

Day to night or night to day transitions in time lapse are often called “holy grails”. Manually ramping the triple threat can be difficult. Sometimes you nail it, most of the time not. This time was a not. I ended up with too much flicker I couldn’t manipulate. Some say, don’t adjust exposure in post and flicker will be minimized, I say bullsh*t, I’ve done that plenty of times with great results. Shoot how you want, edit how you want. Learn the lessons yourself, don’t just take people’s word for it. This clip will end up in the round file, but not before I learned a few things.

There sheer vastness of America’s National Parks amazes me. Sure there are places where you’ll find loads of people in the parks, but then there’s places less traveled. I prefer the less traveled locations. I’d rather see the landscape scenery, not 5 bus loads of people scouring like ants.
